I apologize for the delay in updates. I spent last weekend in New Orleans for the Burlesque Festival with none other than the Corky Bordeaux! Then upon my return to the mountains I have been busy writing the choreography for my upcoming workshop.
I would like to share with you some of the photos from the saucy adventures with my favorite tawdry dame!
The first night we arrived in NOLA we quickly got down to enjoying the local fare and drinking with the locals. At some point in the early morning hours we found ourselves wandering though the garden district and so of course I had to, yet again, find the house that was once Anne Rice‘s. Rice has been an inspiration of mine since the impressionable age of thirteen. the photo below I snapped with my phone of the street that runs by her house.
The next day we strolled through the French Quarter, checking out boutiques and voodoo shops.
This shoe boutique was my favorite. The sales lady was a gorgeous Audrey Hepburn look alike. Above, Corky tries on a pair of Vivienne Westwoods.
Two pairs of shoes, a snake bracelet (Toddles the Tawdry Snake we named it) and one voodoo kitty later we rested at the famed meeting spot for Mayfairs and Vampires, Cafe Du Monde,
The radiant Ms. Corky. Check out her blog, Derma Darling to read her expert beauty advice.
After cafe au lait and begneits, we went back to our hostel to doll up for the Bad Girls of Burlesque show at the House of Blues.
Before the show we had dinner and wine. Corky snapped this picture of me at a sexy lounge that we found along the way.
The show was incredible and the venue very well suited. As elegant and classy as sitting in a theater and watching striptease can be, I feel I will always prefer the standing room only shows. It is so much more punk rock, which is what I want my burlesque to feel like. Three acts really blew my mind. The first was Menage a Trois from Charleston, SC. Group numbers, when done well, always steal my heart. The second was Lou Lou D’vil who was just as her tagline says “sex on legs.” Already with my jaw on the floor at this point, out walks Catherine D’Lish, probably the most sensual woman I have ever laid eyes upon.
After the show we enjoyed some Absinthe and then danced until the sun came up. Walking home at dawn we came across a cozy dinner where we feasted on chicken fried steak….I never figured out how the chicken was involved but it was delicious.
The next day was the Queen of Burlesque Competition held at Harrah’s. The theater was by far the most opulant venue at which I had ever witnessed a burlesque show. Congratulations to Ginger Valentine the new reigning Queen of Burlesque! The two runners up Lola Van Ella and Lou Lou D’vil where also stunning. I also quite enjoyed the fierce beauty of Peekaboo Pointe and the exquisite Medianoche.
